LandTech Learners
The LandTech Learners Program is a pioneering initiative that aims to position our small rural school as a leader in responsive, hands-on education that prepares students for the complexities and challenges of the modern world. Rooted in the belief that children and youth learn best through active engagement, real-world connections, and authentic experiences, the program creates a dynamic weekly structure grounded in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Indigenous ways of knowing, land-based education, community relationships, and STEM learning.
By anchoring our learning in place-based, outdoor, and intergenerational experiences, we are fostering resilience, creativity, and collaboration in our students. LandTech Learners responds directly to the evolving needs of today’s children—many of whom are facing disconnection from nature, weakened community ties, and a global landscape that demands sustainability and innovation.
At the heart of this program is the creation of a clear and confident identity for our rural school: one that reflects forward-thinking values, educational relevance, and deep community-rootedness. By offering a robust, integrated, and place-based learning model, we hope to attract partnerships, build capacity, and serve as a model for other small schools navigating similar challenges.
The program structure includes weekly focus areas:
Monday - Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - Thematic units on agriculture, mining, innovation/partnerships
Tuesday - Indigenous Ways of Knowing & Land-Based Learning - Seasonal learning, storytelling, traditional knowledge
Wednesday - Outdoor Education & Play-Based Learning - Exploratory, sensory-rich, and nature-based activities Thursday - Community Connections & History - Intergenerational learning with local seniors, oral history, collaboration
Friday - Global Geography & STEM Exploration - World challenges, problem-solving, hands-on science & technology
